How to play FIFA 07 online

You're in a match in three steps. Install the program on your computer and your opponent's, and it takes care of the rest: no network settings, port forwarding or IP addresses.

Install the program

Open the 07online-Setup file you downloaded and click Yes if Windows asks for permission. It takes less than a minute and the program opens by itself.
Join the same room

One of you creates a room with a password, the other picks it from the list and joins with the password. Looking for an opponent? Press Find Quick Match.
Start a match from Network

Both of you start FIFA 07 and open Multiplayer › Network. One of you hosts a match, the other sees it in the list and joins.

How it differs from Hamachi and Radmin VPN

You can play FIFA 07 with virtual network programs, but usually only through the Direct IP screen. This program was built to make the game's own Network list work.

Why? On the Network screen, FIFA 07 broadcasts a signal asking "is there a match here?". Windows sends that signal through the first connection in its list, which is usually your normal internet connection, so it never reaches the virtual network. This program puts its own connection at the top of the list and delivers the signal to everyone in your room.

How your connection works

The program first tries to connect the two computers directly. If that isn't possible, the match continues through our server. You can see which one is used from the dot next to each player in the room.

Direct connection

Data goes straight between the two homes, so latency is only as high as the distance between them. Most home connections work this way.

Via server

Some mobile and corporate internet connections block direct connections. Then data goes through our server in Germany; latency goes up a little, but the match keeps running.

Either way, the data is encrypted and not even the server can read it. You'll see the latency in milliseconds (ms) next to each player's name.

Before you start

FIFA 07 must be installed on your computer.
07online doesn't distribute the game; it only connects your copy to the internet.
If you have Radmin VPN, Hamachi or ZeroTier, turn off their connection.
If they stay on, they may take the game's signal. Press Windows + R, type ncpa.cpl and press Enter. In the window that opens, right-click that program's connection and choose Disable. You can turn it back on from the same place any time. The program also warns you when it finds such a connection and offers to turn it off with one click.
You may see a "Windows protected your PC" warning.
The program is new, so Windows doesn't recognize it yet. Click More info, then Run anyway.

Is it free?

Yes, the program and the server are completely free.

How do I play FIFA 07 online with a friend?

Both of you install this program and join the same room in it. Then start FIFA 07 and open Multiplayer › Network: one of you hosts a match, the other sees it in the list and joins. It doesn't matter if you're in different cities or even different countries.

Does FIFA 07's LAN (Network) mode work over the internet?

On its own, the game's LAN mode only works between computers on the same home or internet café network. This program connects computers in different homes as if they were on the same network, so the game sees your opponent as if you were on the same LAN.

I can't see my opponent in FIFA's Network list.

First check that you're both in the same room in the program. Start FIFA 07 after joining the room; if the game is already running, close it and start it again.

Radmin VPN, Hamachi and similar connections must be off for both of you (see "Before you start" above). If it still doesn't work, press Logs in the program; the log.txt file in the folder that opens helps us find the problem.

Can I test it on my own, without an opponent?

Yes. Create a room and type /test in the chat. A test robot joins the room. When you open the Network screen in FIFA, the robot posts in the chat if the game's signal reaches the system. The robot doesn't appear in FIFA's match list, because it isn't a real player.

What languages is the program in?

English and Turkish. It opens in Turkish if Windows is in Turkish and in English otherwise; you can switch any time with the TR and EN buttons at the bottom of the window. Players using different languages can play in the same room.

Why does the program ask for permission every time it starts?

When it starts, the program adds a virtual network connection to your computer and sets it up for the game. Windows asks for approval for this every time. The virtual connection is removed when you close the program.

Is it safe?

All data between players is encrypted. Players in your room can only connect to FIFA 07 on your computer; your other services, such as file sharing, stay closed to them. You can remove the program any time from Settings › Apps, and everything it added is removed with it.

How many players can be in a room?

When you create a room you can choose 2, 4 or 8 players. Quick Match rooms are for 2.

Will there be lag?

With a direct connection, latency equals the internet latency between the two homes, which is plenty for FIFA 07 when you're in the same region. Players who connect through the server have a little more latency, because data travels to Germany and back. You'll see the real value next to each player's name in every match.
